Introduction

Thicket UI is a Liquid-native component garden for Jekyll, with a distinctive woodland palette, editorial typography, and accessible interactions.

It is designed as a small design system with room to grow, not a generic starter template. Use the pieces you need and make them yours.

What you get

  • Design token system (CSS Custom Properties)
  • Organization structured data that complements jekyll-seo-tag
  • Light / dark / system theme
  • Accessible components (keyboard, ARIA, focus)
  • Consistent Liquid component API
  • Vanilla JavaScript (ES modules)
  • Marketing sections ready for landing pages
  • Example templates

Requirements

  • Ruby ≥ 3.0
  • Bundler
  • Jekyll 4.3+

Quick start

bundle install
bundle exec jekyll serve

Open http://localhost:4000.

Philosophy

  1. Rooted in Jekyll — Liquid components first; no client framework required
  2. A point of view — warm paper, woodland greens, and editorial display type
  3. Accessibility first — semantic HTML and progressive enhancement
  4. Easy rebranding — override CSS variables, not component internals
  5. Branchable — reusable components for SaaS, portfolio, blog, and docs
